  1. hah, as soon as i saw the title for this episode my mind immediately went to the atlantis theme in scv4. probably my favorite soundtrack on the snes. also, not really 8-bit/16-bit, but if you guys haven't checked him out, i recommend yasuhisa watanabe, specifically his collaborations with people like ayako saso and/or shinji hosoe; he often integrates jazz-fusion elements into his material.

  2. Camel Jazz for Aladdin was not composed by Tommy Tallorico. It was by Donald S. Griffin.

  3. The beginning of Camel Jazz seems to borrow a lot from Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma.

  4. Heard a little bit of "My Favorite Things" in Desert Paradise.

  5. Glad to finally hear some EarthBound on the podcast, and holy shit Brent, you need to play it. I hope you've played it by now if you haven't. It's one of the best games I've ever played and it's my favorite game of all time. It's the kind of game that doesn't seem so special while you're playing it, but then the ending culminates in such a way that puts your whole adventure up to that point into a whole new light and hits you right in the heart. The moment the final note in the final credits song ended the first time I played the game, I instantly knew it had just become my favorite game of all time. So play it, but don't expect it to blow you away, and don't expect it to be a super thrilling RPG. It's not that kind of game. 90% of its charm is in its dialogue, so it's the kind of game where the more you put into it (talking to every NPC, taking your time, stopping to smell the roses), the more you get out of it. The best I can say to sum it up is that it has more heart than any other game I can think of that I've ever played, especially in the 8 and 16 bit eras. It's an incredible experience, but the whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation. Brent ends up getting EarthBound in Episode 54. And then talks about his experience playing it in the following episodes, particularly in Episode 57 and finishes the game by Episode 58.
