LMH Mixtape #157: Final Episode Podcast In Review

You may notice this is a rather short mixtape.  Only one track, in fact.  In the full episode, Brent and Rob revisited memorable clips from the podcast as they said goodbye in this “Final” Episode (Podcast In Review).  But the possibility was left open to return to the show after a period of break.  Only time would tell.  The End?...

LMH Mixtape #156: Best Of Year In Review 3

Another year comes to a close and we arrive at another Best Of Year In Review episode.  To say this one is packed with non-stop hits is an understatement.  If you're unfamiliar with how these episodes work, Brent and Rob switch off, back and forth, counting down their top ten tracks that they discovered during the year.  Rob will start things off this year with his number ten, and you can take it from there.

Episode 255: Beyond 16-Bit 8

Beyond 16-Bit 8, that's a bit of a confusing title, no?  Anyway, you know how it is.  Every now and then, the Legacy Music Hour does an episode that features video game music from BEYOND the fourth generation of video games.  And yet, like other beyond focuses, this episode ends up sounding pretty retro.  Rob gets serious at one point about a subject near and dear to him, by the way, speaking of bygone eras, so brace yourself for that.  And, well, have fun listening to some of this "modern" music, and actually, some of these tracks really are from brand new games that came out this year, so there probably shouldn't be quotation marks there.  Full track listing below.

LMH Mixtape #148: Experimental Music 2

Experimental music can be many things. Sometimes it's weird or unconventional like in Earthbound.  Sometimes it's intriguing and leaves you with many unanswered questions like "Wolverine" from Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge.  Much like Lydia in Beetlejuice, these tracks are strange and unusual, but that's what makes them so interesting.

Episode 253: Blues Progressions

The basic blues chord progression is the topic of Episode 253.  Used in a lot of pop, rock 'n' roll, jazz, and of course, blues, this episode is not about music that sounds blues-y or that uses a blues scale (though some of the tracks do sound blues-y and/or use a blues scale).  It's about music that uses the traditional and generic blues progression you've heard countless times in music and seeing how these different video game pieces express that structure in their own way.  Full track listing below.

LMH Mixtape #137: Asiatic Music 2

How fortunate for us that the boizz decided to take a return trip to Asiatic levels and games, because it meant they brought back another handful of musical souvenirs!  This mixtape is kinda like a carousel slideshow of their trip, except that it cranks through tunes instead of pictures and is way more exciting than any vacation presentation your aunts or uncles made you sit through after family dinner.  Enjoy the tour, and maybe you'll get inspired to go on your own worldly video game travels this year.

Episode 247: Racing Games 4

It's been a while since the Legacy Music Hour did a theme focus but here we are with an all racing games episode.  NOTE: Rob's Famicom Grand Prix track was kind of wrong.  During the original recording, the track he played was a sort of combined version of two different tracks from the game, which sounded like one.  When it was discovered that the track wasn't supposed to be like that, it was replaced during the editing with the two separate tracks played back to back, but during the talking, you'll still hear that combined version and comments made about it as if it were one track, in case that's confusing.  Full track listing below.

LMH Mixtape #136: 1998

Wait, wasn't 1998 like, ten years ago?  As time keeps marching on, take a moment to listen to this mixtape and reflect on the good things you had going on at the turn of the century.  KeyGlyph was in seventh grade and had just been introduced to Pokémon, a three-dimensional Hyrule, and Cher's roboticized vocals in the pop hit "Believe."  Key and friends were also feverishly anticipating the North American release of the Sega Dreamcast, which they believed was going to change the world.

Now it's your turn:  What were you doing in 1998?
