ReplyDeleteI think Rob tends to hear similarities to street fighter 2 every time there are sort of uptempo bell sounds, used in an arpeggio...
Romancing Saga is a totally separate line of rpgs, and Saga for GB was re-named "final fantasy" b/c at that point there were no saga games released in the US (as Brent hypothesized, for "sales reasons")

ReplyDeleteSorry, for the above. Too many typos. Just wanted to say I agree that Secret of Mana is a fantastic soundtrack. I think the Square episodes are my favorite since I was a Square fan boy playing games when I was younger. I look forward to this podcast every week! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThat Rudra no Hihou track sounds a lot like Breath of Fire. I wonder if Ryuji Sasai knows Mari Yamaguchi.
ReplyDeleteAfter hearing Emperor of Balladry, I had to go and play Treasure Hunter G, and hear it in proper context. I just finished it 10 minutes ago, and that song, is definitely the highlight of the entire game. Neat battle system though
ReplyDeleteThat last one from Front Mission: Gun Hazard is clearly an early version of Under the Rotting Pizza from FF7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ezxwm4Y0iZ8
