That Albert Odyssey 2 track sounded so familiar, even though I'm pretty sure I've never heard it before. It may just be that it has the SNES JRPG sound, but I could swear it was influenced strongly by some Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger track, both in its melody and use of instrumentation.
ReplyDeleteI hear some similarities to a few tracks, but the one that stands out the most to me is "Forever Rachel" from Final Fantasy VI (3 US). It is possible that Naoki Kodaka was influenced by the track because Albert Odyssey 2 came out about 8 months after FFVI.
DeleteGreat podcast guys, lots of great tunes.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about Sorcerian and I liked that Beautiful Day tune very much.
Also loved the songs by Noriyuki Iwadare. Thanks for pointing out his name, I recognized the style immediately from his Zero Wing soundtrack but didn't know about his other works.
Cheers!
Supposedly LaGrange Point didn't sell very well because the VRC7 chip made it quite a bit more expensive than other famicom games at the time. It's too bad it never got a US release. The whole soundtrack is great and, judging from the youtube footage, the game looks great. I go back to a request I made a long time ago for a LaGrange Point focus episode.
ReplyDeleteBlech. Wizardry. Good song, crappy game. And already antique by the time of its 8 bit release.
Holy hell. Langrisser II is totally bitchin.
Really enjoyed Sorcerian Beautiful day. Have you guys heard this like....Michael Bolton remix of it? Smoooooooth ftw

FYI, the Little Ninja Brothers music is the theme from the opening of the 3rd movement of Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, he should probably be listed as the composer.
ReplyDeleteAh! Thanks for catching that!
DeleteHi Brent & Rob, discovered the show a few months ago, and have been going through your back episodes. I'm currently up to episode 103, and will be caught up to the latest shows soon. Absolutely fantastic work on the show. I'm holding a small but appropriate "Thank you" gift, in thanks for your efforts making the show, that I'd like to mail to you guys (16-bit music related! no it's not a CD!); what mailing address can I send it to, so you guys will receive it? (I will be mailing it internationally, so it will take a few weeks for you to receive it.)
ReplyDeleteHi! Send us an email at legacymusichour@gmail.com and we'll send you the headquarters address!
