Episode 228: Man To Woman

  2. So I woke up this morning on the ceiling, climbed downstairs to find my cat had romanced my dog, and Brent said WHAT?!?! I’m glad I didn’t get to listen until later in the day, because I would have spit out my Cheerios. And I didn’t even EAT any Cheerios.

    Seriously though, I’m OG Sega AF, but.....I don’t know if I agree. I mean, there are some beasts out there who can work magic with the Genesis, and it will always be my #1 most loved system, but.....well I have two buts. But #1: it is so easy to make that YM2612 sound like steaming hot poo, and so difficult to make it sound beautiful. Consider how few Americans there were that made good Genesis music. And But #2: there are so many SNES composers who made absolutely stunning music that is every bit as smooth, if not smoother, than what is possible on the Genesis. Yes, there are some beautiful textures that you can get on the Genesis that you can’t get on the SNES, but the reverse is also true. I mean, speaking of WaterWorld, that OST has smoothness for days.     I guess what I’m trying to say is, both systems are capable of so much beauty, I’m happy to let them sit in their own celestial palaces and bring joy to us all. That said Brent, I can totally see why you’d say that after listening to Eiyuu Densetsu 2. That OST is one of my faves for the Mega Drive, and Unused Ending 2 is one of my favorite pieces of VGM ever written.

    GABE! I loved that Jay and Silent Bob track! But as I was listening to it, I could have sworn I’d heard it before. Then when you repeated it was Toni Leys, I realized why.     1. Agreed. I really don't think much of a case can be made that the Genesis is "better" unless a person simply prefers that distinctive sound. I think the Genesis could be pitted against the NES, as it originally was. Those two consoles sound comparable in sound. The SNES is not only in its own celestial palace... It's on a different celestial plane than the Genesis.

    3. Sorry, I must have misinterpreted the "buts" as meaning that the Genesis CAN sound good, but mostly sounds like "steaming hot poo." Sorry, I guess I really am saying that I feel like the SNES is a different realm.

  3. Brent, what's your hesitation about streaming on Twitch? I haven't used Twitch much until very recently, and never really understood the point of watching streams or videos of other people playing games, until I watched your/Rob's/Gabe's videos on Patreon and realized that it's all about who is playing the game and whether you enjoy their personality. I think you guys should all start streaming on Twitch and that you could gain huge followings there. I for one would pay extra in addition to Patreon (though I'm not sure how that works on Twitch exactly) to watch you stream live when you're playing through the games you talk about on Brent's Games. You make a lot of comments like "Do people even find this interesting?" and the answer is YES, your fans who enjoy your personality find it plenty interesting even to hear you talk about the games you've been playing, much less to watch as you play them. (I mention this because your qualifier of "I guess" about streaming on Twitch sounds like maybe you're just not sure whether--or why--people would be interested in watching that.) This applies to Rob as well: it would never occur to me to watch a random stranger play a game like Fortnite, but watching Rob play it is fun and hilarious. You guys should be dominating a site like Twitch.

    1. P.S. There's something about watching live that's even cooler than watching recorded videos like the ones you have on Patreon. I don't know if you noticed me lurking in your channel when you streamed Strider (I just happened to have searched your name and found your channel when I recently got on Twitch myself) but there was something about it being live that added an extra element of enjoyment. And when you guys play multiplayer games like Broforce, that would be amazing to watch live as well.

  6. FYI, Mega Man 9 has Splash Woman as a boss. Mega Man 9 & 10 are modern games, but done in the original 8-bit style.

  9. "Proto Man" is one of the classic examples of why I mostly hate the name changes in localizations. You can tell a whole story just by having a character named Blues and a theme song like that.

    The first song, Blue Marine kept getting stuck in my head and a few days later I was catching up on episodes and head Proto man, and it hit me that's where I've heard it before!
    Listening to them now, Blue Marine has a total Proto Man vibe!
