Episode 64: Ninja Games

Ninja Games is the topic of Episode 64.  Brent and Rob select tracks from games like Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden, and The Legend of Kage, and in doing so, discover a very prominent "coming of age" theme throughout.  NOTE: Brent and Rob mispronounce Kage like the English "cage," when it's actually the Japanese word for shadow, pronounced "ka-gey."  ANOTHER NOTE: There was a little bit of a technical problem with this episode and all the vocal stuff has a hiss to it, but fortunately, the music tracks are clean and good to go.  Full track listing below.

  1. legend of the mystical ninja is a super-underrated classic game imo! great soundtrack too, for all the sfc/snes goemon games really.

  2. ...it's a tragedy to include THREE NINJAS but not legend of the mystical ninja !

(PS Legend of Kage, 'kage' is said like "ka-geh" ; also Goemon is like "go-eh-mon")

  3. Not sure if this is the place for corrections, but there are actually four 3 Ninjas movies. The last one was High Noon at Mega Mountain (starring Hulk Hogan).

  5. @raggy Yeah, Legend of the Mystical Ninja has a great soundtrack, but we've played stuff from that game in the past, so it was pretty much like we HAD to play 3 Ninjas. Just kidding. But yeah, we mentioned how we mispronounced Kage in the episode description.

  8. I love this episode so much -- so good... and you closed it out with Shinobi from Master System. Anything from Master System makes me very happy!

  11. This is one of the best all around episodes imho. Listened to it multiple times. The music and banter are great. I laughed out loud at the ninja graduation and self smoke bombing bits. Shinobi III is one of my favorite soundtracks. The game is great too. That last level with the electrified walls is tough!

  12. Oh my god, I'm SO happy to hear Scene 1 from TMNT III in this episode! Not only was I not expecting to hear any TMNT (I figured "ninja" games would be straight-up ninja games like Ninja Gaiden, I didn't even think about TMNT) in this episode, but I LOVE that song and that game's entire soundtrack. Super stoked when I heard Brent announce this track, man. SO good.
