I knew I'd heard "Sunset Coastline" from Rad Racer somewhere before... then it hit me: the Brother's Chaps used it for the theme music to "Stinko Man K 20X6," the "japanese cartoon" version of Homestar Runner. "Challenge and fighting and fighting and challenge tonight... everybody's-fighting-mumblemumblemumble!"
ReplyDeleteI had the exact same experience and love that I wasn't the only one.
DeleteGreat set of tunes from Nobuo guys! You should check out Hitoshi Sakimoto's early works if you like Nobuo. His soundtrack for Gauntlet 4 for the Mega Drive/Genesis is simply amazing!
ReplyDeleteBrent, just caught you on Hardwick's, Nerdist today. I just started pulling down the podcast in bulk based on the premise alone. The fact that the sample you played on the show was from Gunstar just totally sold me. Really looking forward to listening to the show!
ReplyDeleteI also heard you on Nerdist today. A friend of mine, who is a phenomenal musician, just released an all 8-bit album.
ReplyDeleteYou should check it out.

great episode! I am new to the FF franchise, this gives me some music to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteThe music from the Airship portion of Final Fantasy reminds me so much of "Under the Boardwalk" by the Drifters. Am I going crazy?
ReplyDeletehey read your email i sent you some info on some game music i think you might like
ReplyDeleteSteven, the airship music from Final Fantasy II(US) (not played on this episode) really reminds me of the Neverending Story music.
ReplyDeleteAnother great episode. Thanks for sharing those Famicom and GB songs. Definitely my first time hearing those tracks. Adding those to my FF playlist.
ReplyDeleteWhat are your thoughts on Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy?

@Tonyx35 Re: Distant Worlds -it's a lot of newer FF stuff, which I'm personally not that into. I went to a FF concert once and Nobuo was there. But same thing, there were only a few 8/16-bit era pieces and I didn't really know the other stuff.
