This is old and I don't know if you deal with it your next episode but: Your playback of the Phantasy Star 2 song was broken. That high-pitched squeak is not in the original. Great elevator music, but not because of the shrill squeak. Check it out on Youtube.
ReplyDelete@Andrew Yup, we address it in the next episode.
ReplyDeleteMy master plan was to listen to the next episode just in case and then click the 'trash can' and delete the comment before anyone noticed. Alas, time got in the way and my master plan, like so many master plans, was disrupted. Sorry, and thanks!
ReplyDeleteTower of the Shadow of Death: Starts off with Super Mario Bros' Level 2 music, and then @ 11:04 sounds almost like Castlevania (Simon's Quest?). Can't put my finger on which track though.
ReplyDeleteoh man, am I crazy or is Mario 3's Water Land Track a jazzy version of the fairy music in Ocarina of Time?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you used the Blaster Master track. Great podcast, fellas. I'm working through them all here in my little cubicle.
ReplyDelete"Ys" is pronounced "eese" like in "geese" -- Great podcast gentlemen
ReplyDeleteGreat show! As always. Was really hoping to see some Sim City and some Mario Paint :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your recent comments! Keep listening to more episodes and you'll be hearing from all the games you mentioned (Maniac Mansion, Earthbound, SimCity, and Mario Paint). Keep listening some more after that and you'll be hearing from games you never would have imagined existed.
DeleteGreat episode! I'm on a second listening round for all of your episodes, sick in bed at the moment.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite tracks top 3:
3. Pilotwings - Soyo Oka - Rocketbelt
2. Ys III: Wanderers from Ys - Redmont, the Street of Trading
1. The Legend of the Mystical Ninja - Travel in Style
So I got on to you guys late, but I was kind of surprised to not see the theme to Elevator Action as a very on the nose reference.
ReplyDeleteI think half of the tracks are not on the mark when it comes to elevator music ...but i think thats partly because its fully realised in later episodes. Good episode though and i always enjoy the Doctors office phone call :D
ReplyDeleteHow are computer games not video games? What am I missing haha
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm commenting 10 years too late, but I'm really glad I found this podcast, I love video game music from retro consoles, this is right up my alley. I just thought I'd throw my hat in the ring for this elevator one and recommend listening to this one:

Fresco from Itadaki Street 2 on the super famicom
Hi, have you started from episode 1? I recommend it as even topics you think may not be of interest contain great tracks. I hope you enjoy.
DeleteIt's never too late to comment. Welcome aboard. Coincidentally, we played that very track "Fresco" on the following elevator focus (Ep. 54):

Thanks Rob F/Brent :)
DeleteThat's awesome that you guys played a track from Itadaki Street, I'm a big fan of both the games and their soundtracks.
And yeah Hobbitjord, I've worked my way in order from ep 1 through to 14, just got up to Sports
