great episode, good variation. thanks for playing my stuff!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this change of pace.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been nice if you could have played a sample of the original music to see what the different artists added/ interpreted from it.
Now that I think about it, K2them suggestion of a sample of the original music is something to think about, when you (hopefully!) do another Covers episode.
ReplyDeleteThis piano cover of Chrono Trigger's Secret of the Forest is one of the most amazing things I've ever heard:

Brent, you should download that guy's sheet music and come to Finland and play it live. I'll give you hug!
Thanks Nikolas! Maybe someday we'll be on tour in that part of the world!
ReplyDeleteI believe the Joe Pleiman song was originally posted on OC ReMix here: http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00022/
ReplyDeleteI was surprised you didn't play other songs from OC ReMix - it has been one of the most active sources of high-quality covers and remixes of video game music for the last 11+ years.
I was amazed at your piano skills Brent - you're great! You should consider submitting something to OCR yourself!
I love Last Wave. It reminds me so much of a Japanese musician named Toshiki Kadomatsu who did Jazzy pop songs that were alright but put out some great Fusion records which Outrun's music borrowed from heavily. His music was always about women, cars, and the sea and Outrun seems to have been influenced by him.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUu4p-Jg4Yc is a good example. Reminds me of Splash Wave.
Loved the Marble Zone cover! ...but was it really you playing Brent, the whole time?
ReplyDeleteIt was Josh Fadem.
DeleteI kept forgetting to come back and comment on this, but hearing Brent play was absolutely the highlight of this episode. It was SO GOOD. Thanks for thinking of it and treating us.
