Episode 143: Matt Furniss

The work of composer Matt Furniss is the focus of Episode 143, with very special in-studio guest, Matt Furniss.  Originally from England, Matt started composing music for computer and video games professionally when he was only 16 years old.  He's done original soundtracks to tons of Genesis games, and has also arranged pre-existing soundtracks to tons more.  His credits list is huge.  Brent and Rob (and Matt) primarily look at Matt's original Genesis material, but also throw in a couple non-Genesis tracks of his, as well as a couple non-Furniss, Furniss-approved tracks.  Full track listing below.

  3. Wow that was a surprise! Puggsy has always been one of my favorite soundtracks, but I didn't know or had forgot that Matt Furniss did it so when he was leading up to what his favorite game was Puggsy came out of nowhere.

    Great, great soundtrack.

  4. Also, what were you doing in Norwich, Brent? Pretty random place!

I'm American living in the UK so it's interesting to hear. Lived in Manchester for 2 years and now London

  5. Also battle 1 from Chrono Trigger is probably unbeatable when it comes to battle tracks!

Also quick 2-part question. Brent and Rob do either of you own a playstation?/ Have you played breath of fire 3? Soundtrack is amazing and has some awesome jazz influences. Maybe you could check it out for your next Beyond 16-bit episodes whenever that may be.

  6. Awesome episode! Much like the AJG focus before, this Matt Furniss focus makes me appreciate the music much more. Very cool that he made it into the studio. And that ResQ ending is straight up emotional.

  10. Just finished listening to this episode again after a year or so. Definitely one of my most favoritist episodes ever! I learned so much from listening to Matt talk about the capabilities of the Genesis sound chip(s). His sound palette is great, his compositions were fantastic.....He definitely belongs in the Legacy Music Hall of Fame next to the likes of Tim Follin, Tokuhiko Uwabo, Yuzo Koshiro, and so on. And that Daffy Duck track is so jam! Can't believe it.
