Episode 221: Conspiracy Connections

The boizz record in yet another new space this episode, Gabe’s own studio.  Rob delves into some conspiracy theory stuff regarding Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, and years of things.  Brent even kind of gets into some conspiracy-esque stuff too a little bit, sort of (see comments below for pertinent links).  Rob’s mic is new and has some static issues, so beware of that.  Also beware, at the end of the show, Gabe talks about kidney stones (but this is actually quite a highlight of the episode).  Join the Legacy Music Hour Patreon at www.patreon.com/LegacyMusicHour for bonus content!  Nice.  Full track listing below.

    1. that sample is real popular for scratch DJ's since the 80's.
The b-side of the record is the other part that's scratched ("It's time"):

  2. New Patreon user here, requesting adult language on all bonus content and high-res Gabe stone pics, if he's comfortable with that. It's not gross, Gabe, it's natural.

Also, I want to let you guys know, deep dive dissections of tracks like you did with that Rejoice track are my absolute favorite. It's always fascinating to hear the individual layers isolated and exciting to find wild samples like we found in this episode!

    Thanks for everything!

  3. Unrelated to the podcast, I'm visiting Hollywood this week. Any recommendations for good food or nightlife? Any shows of yours I could go to?

  5. The composer of Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 is Akinori Sawa.

    1. Akinori Sawa composed the music to the NES game Baseball Simulator 1.000. As it turns out, Super Baseball Simular 1.000 for the SNES uses some of the same music including the track in question. So Akinori Sawa is right, he did compose the track. Now the question is, who arranged it for the SNES game?

    2. Yeah, if it wasn't Sawa himself, who knows. In regard to the Hybrid Wrestler soundtrack, I'd be willing to bet that it was composed by ‎Kazunaka Yamane. You can hear his signature style on the "Funaki" track and other tracks sound similar to some of the Technos games he composed for, like Super Double Dragon, Combatribes, and Shin Nekketsu Kouha. But again - million dollar question.

    3. Also regarding that game, I just assumed that "1.000" just one thousand using a period as the separator instead of a comma (https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19455-01/806-0169/overview-9/index.html).

I think the implication is that you could manage your team so well that your batters could be "batting one thousand", e.g. getting a hit on every single at-bat.

    4. I really liked this track, I thought it sounded sort of like something from one of KOEI's Executive Series business sim games

    1. Now this is a midn profile we can get in to! Hopefully using the name midn doesn't lure it back to this site.

  7. Glad you guys decided to make a Patreon, signed up right away. You guys have been offering us free shows for ~10 years. I think five dollars is more than fair. I would love to see some more vgm piano renditions from Brent. I also agree with Gabe that if you have a credit card to donate monthly it’s safe to say your of age and that if some “non kid-friendly” jokes or language comes up organically they probably don’t need to be censored. I’ve never heard a scratching solo like that in a vgm track. Thanks for all the hard work over the years! We really appreciate it!

  8. Regarding the track names in Rejoice, upon further research, the names are all correct (including the one that uses the b-word). They're all listed in the credits of the game.

  9. Just signed up for the patreon. They tried adding extra few dollars for VAT because I put my country as the UK. As soon as I changed it to USA it went back to the normal $5.

  11. Loved breaking down the Rejoice track! That was really interesting. As others have mentioned as well, I really like breaking down the tracks. It's always really amazing what they had to do to make the pieces work (switching tracks and so forth).

  13. The mystery of Funaki Masakatsu Hybrid Wrestler has been solved! The music was composed by the team of Chiaki Iizuki, Reiko Uehara and Kiyomi Kataoka.

  14. Sorry, hey, that was the music from the Mortal Kombat ad, not the movie, f anything they ripped it off from the TV ad, which had that intro and that scream "MORTAL KOMBAAAAAT!!". That didn't happen anywhere in the movie.

  15. I agree with Rob regarding the "match play golf" track sounding similar to the SF2 character select track.
