LMH Mixtape #291: Beyond 16-Bit 11

It's time again for another Beyond 16-Bit episode, where the boizz get to play some video game music that normally wouldn't be LMH legal.  This covers a wide range of generations, including a track from a game (Mina the Hollower) that at the time of this mixtape's release has yet to even be released!  Two tracks were played from the arcade game Bunny Bomber Blast! which are sure to get you fired up.  And Mall Meltdown (Episode 6) from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a totally slappin' tune with parts that sound similar to Madonna's "Into the Groove."  So let's all get into the groove with these tracks and everything else on this mixtape!

LMH Mixtape #279: Anything Goes

This was a unique episode that went beyond even the "beyond" episodes.  While there were still some limits to this "anything goes" episode (the music had to be from a game), it allowed not just beyond third and fourth generation, but beyond consoles as well.  Meaning computer games, video games, and even slot machines were all allowed in this one time special offer.  And what better way to start this mixtape off than with a track from the immensely talented Enrique Martin (Pentadrangle) with "Omessah" from the PC game Voidrun.  There's also tracks from Playstation 2, Nintendo Switch and much more.  There's even a web browser based game from Google (Doodle Champion Island Games).  When anything goes, you never know what you might find.

LMH Mixtape #256: Beyond 16-Bit 9

On the rare occasion the Legacy Music Hour goes beyond the fourth generation for an episode.  But on this rarest of occasions, they did back-to-back Beyond 16-Bit episodes.  Somehow, even in an episode with relaxed rules for what tracks are legal to play, an illegal track slipped though, as "Jewelry (Prize Cue 1989)" from Wheel of Fortune on Sega CD was a previously existing track, not actually written for the game.  That said, it's still a fantastic piece.  Unfortunately though, it has an abrupt ending, as the track was never intended to play for the full length.  This mixtape on the other hand is best enjoyed in full.  Check out the amazing music here that spans from the mid 90's to current day.

LMH Mixtape #255: Beyond 16-Bit 8

While some of the tracks in this mixtape may *sound* like they're from the third or fourth generation, this is in fact a Beyond 16-Bit episode (the eighth one to be precise).  These episodes are a way for the boizz to share modern VGM finds that wouldn't normally be LMH legal.  As you'll see from tracks like "Saved the Moon (Alt. Ending/Credits)" from Elechead or "Marsh" from Lizard, there are modern soundtracks that still return to the classic chiptune sound.  Of course there's also a lot of really fantastic non-chiptune music to enjoy as well such as "House of Sacred Remains" from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.  So let's step outside the normal episode style and delve into some music from beyond the fourth generation.

LMH Mixtape #236: Beyond 16-Bit 7

Time to slap some beyond meat on the grill and cook up a sizzling mixtape.  That's right, it's time for another Beyond 16-Bit episode where the boizz get to share tracks that wouldn't normally be LMH legal.  Starting things off is a beautiful and haunting gothic piece from Alice: Madness Returns.  Following that is "Robot Factory (Chapter 6)" from the incredibly bonk soundtrack from Cyber Shadow.  "Autumn's Rise" from CrossCode is a very relaxing smooth jazz jam.  "Minnie's Theme/Versus Minnie" from Magical Tetris Challenge is also jazzy, but with a little more pep in its step.  And of course, an infectious track that almost needs no introduction, "Let’s Go Away" from (say it with me)...Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaaaa USA.

LMH Mixtape #216: Beyond 16-Bit 5

Every once in a while the boizz venture outside the realm of the 3rd and 4th generation, and go Beyond 16-Bit.  This marks the fifth time exploring this topic, and the LMH crew have a lot of great tunes to share with you in this episode.  While these are all "beyond" tracks, you would be forgiven for mistaking some of these for 3rd or 4th generation tracks.  The first track of this mixtape is a perfect example of this, with an 8-bit tune from the Menu of the NES Classic.  There's a lot of great modern retro style VGM composers in this mix like Jake Kaufman, Toby Fox, and Eric W. Brown, but there's also classic greats like Tomoya Tomita with "Frosty Wheel" from Kirby's Epic Yarn.  Finally, this mixtape caps off with an absolute banger, "One Night In Neo Kobe City" from the Sega CD game Snatcher, which features some killer saxophone!  So grab your headphones and join us in this journey beyond.

Episode 256: Beyond 16-Bit 9

Well, it turned out to be a back-to-back beyond 16-bit situation after all.  For the second month in a row, Brent, Rob, and Gabe showcase video game music from the fifth generation and above.  Wow, they recorded this one super early in the morning.  In fact, this is the earliest they've ever recorded in the last twelve years, not including late-night post-midnight recordings.  Hey, ever wanted to meet people at a library?  No problem, the Legacy Music Hours gives you plenty of library pick-up lines you can draw from in Episode 256.  Also, Brent tests Rob's and Gabe's geography knowledge at one point, so with what you learn in that segment, you can use to impress your librarian date at dinner (or breakfast).  Full track listing below.

Episode 255: Beyond 16-Bit 8

Beyond 16-Bit 8, that's a bit of a confusing title, no?  Anyway, you know how it is.  Every now and then, the Legacy Music Hour does an episode that features video game music from BEYOND the fourth generation of video games.  And yet, like other beyond focuses, this episode ends up sounding pretty retro.  Rob gets serious at one point about a subject near and dear to him, by the way, speaking of bygone eras, so brace yourself for that.  And, well, have fun listening to some of this "modern" music, and actually, some of these tracks really are from brand new games that came out this year, so there probably shouldn't be quotation marks there.  Full track listing below.
