Brent sounded down or tired this episode. Or maybe it was just the New Age putting him to sleep.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I've noticed with the new recordings, you guys sound a bit softer than with your old system. Otherwise, keep up the good work!
Glad to hear the next episode will be a focus on the Neo Geo. I look forward to hearing your opinions on the sound hardware of the system, especially when compared to the other 16 bit systems of that generation.
ReplyDeleteAre youguys recording in the E! building where Nerdist records sometimes, or Meltdown comics?
ReplyDeleteStealth's "falling down the stairs" drum fills are very Always Something There to Remind me.
Straight up NarcDog no Daibouken! There's a tshirt idea there somewhere.
So, an interesting development recently happened. I downloaded an app for the iphone/ipad that plays nes, snes, genesis and gameboy tracks! Finally I have joined planet earth! So, I need help w genesis soundtracks. There are obvious ones that i already got, skitchin, road rash, alien soldier. But off the top of your heads (and without going through 112 back episodes), what are a few great soundtracks that I may not be thinking of? I'm covered on nes and super nes, but i definitely need genesis assistance.
s ones that I already got
Lightening Force
DeleteThunder Force III
Wolfchild
DJ Boy
SOnic The HEdgehog
Ys III
That's what came to mind 1st.
Lightening Force! How in the world did I forget that one?!
DeleteI'm on it. Downloading these immediately.
What's the one called...the mean bean machine one? I remember those tracks were good. I'll look it up. Comix Zone has a bunch of great tracks too, right?
Gunstar Heroes
DeleteSonic 2
Puyo Puyo Tsuu
Out Run
Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Strider
Master of Monsters
Pebble Beach Golf Links
There are so many...
One of these New Age episodes will have Schala's theme from Chrono Trigger... one day.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that Mario paint sounds totally like Hip Tanaka; coulda been ripped straight out of Metroid/Earthbound. Love the bending dissonant bass note in the background.
DeleteI feel so bad when I hear Rob work so hard on the Japanese phonetics. Hopefully this helps:
ReplyDeleteAkanekodan Teki Hihou
Break apart by syllable -
A ka ne ko da n Te Ki Hi Ho u
あ か ね こ だ ん て き ひ ほ う
sounds like:
Ah Kah Nay Koh Dah Nn; Tay Kee; Hee Hoh oo
The nicest thing about Japanese is that it's nearly 100% phonetic. If you can read it, you can pronounce it (as my teacher used to say).
THank you sir. I do struggle with it but I'll get better.
DeleteActually, I'm pretty sure the ou at the end of Hihou is actually alternate spelling of ō which is just pronounced similarly to an "oh" sound. Right? Japanese is mostly phonetic, but there are a couple weird things like the uu and the ou...
DeleteNothin' but love guys! It could be, I'd have to see it spelled in Hiragana to be certain. My Kanji is non-existent, as I grew up in Southern California and not Kyoto... =/
DeleteHave a good new year!
-Ryan "SavingPrincess" Geiger (a.k.a. the guy who made your logo!)
Nice on the shout-out to Hearts of Space! After the Mario paint track Brent sounded exactly like Stephen Hill. Music from Mario Paint...on this edition...of Hearts of Space..."
ReplyDeleteThis was a great episode. However, I'm wondering why it seems this episode and the one before were recorded in mono. Is it just my phone doing something funky? The next episode is definitely in stereo. I realize recording in mono takes up half the space as stereo but I'm hoping you guys aren't planning to do that.
Right, the mono thing is a bummer. We didn't realize it was mono until recently, but we're gonna try to make sure they're all in stereo.
Delete(We're still working out the kinks with our new recording situation.)
DeleteIt's all good. Production issues happen. I'd listen to your show even if it was only available on AM radio.
ReplyDeleteThe organ and bass parts of Mario Paint-Mysterious remind me of soundscapes that David Lynch makes for his films. @ Ryan Agreed, the upper register portions sound like they could be from Metroid.
ReplyDeleteYuzo Koshiro moving from the 0s and 1s to the 1s and 2s.
ReplyDeleteThis episode is easily in my top 5! Good music, fun banter and all round great vibes. Love you guys, never stop doing what you do.
